4 Cat Crafts That Are Perfect for Kids

Cat lovers, are you looking for a fun activity to do with your kids that will also help develop their creativity and even enhance their motor skills? How about a fun DIY cat craft? There are many easy cat crafts that you and your kids can make together at home. And you can do many of these with just a few basic materials that you most likely already have in your arts and crafts box.

Paper Plate Cat Craft

This is a purr-fect cat craft for preschoolers and kindergarteners that’s simple to make. It does involve glue and black paint, however, so be sure to cover your table and chairs! 

Materials

• Paper plate
• Pink pipe cleaners (or color of your choice)
• Black and pink construction paper
• Black paint and paint brush
• Googly eyes
• White acrylic paint marker
• Scissors 
• Glue stick

Instructions

1. Paint the backside of the paper plate, then set aside to dry.
2. Cut out two triangles from the black construction paper and two smaller triangles with the pink paper. Glue the pink onto the black. 
3. Once the paint is thoroughly dried, glue the ears onto the back of the plate toward the top.
4. Twist three pipe cleaners together for the whiskers and twist a fourth one around the middle for the nose. 
5. Glue the pipe cleaners into the middle of the plate and add the googly eyes.
6. Using the white paint pen, give it a cute cat smile.
7. Display your new paper plate cat craft on a wall or the fridge for everyone to see!   

Cat Grass Plant Pot

Cats love to nibble on cat grass, and it can be quite nutritious! It contains fiber and micronutrients such as vitamins A and D. Here’s an easy cat craft that will give your feline companion their very own cat grass plant pot. 

Materials

• Small black plant pot
• Googly eyes (buy some with built-in adhesive where you can just peel the back label off).
• White acrylic paint marker
• Cat grass

Instructions

1. Attach the googly eyes onto the pot.
2. Draw whiskers, a nose, and a mouth with the white paint marker.
3. Place your new plant pot cat art somewhere your cat can easily access.

Standing Cat Card

Is there a cat-lover’s birthday coming up? How about making them a custom card? This is a fun cat paper craft you can do with your kids that can be displayed on a counter or a desk. 

Materials

• Multi-colored construction paper
• Black Sharpie pen
• Googly eyes
• Scissors 
• Glue stick
• Pencil

Instructions

1. Fold a piece of construction paper in half, then cut out a section for the legs.
2. Next, cut diagonally from the bottom corners to the top about 2 inches inward from each side.
3. Using a second piece of the same color paper, cut out an oval shape for the head. Tip: you can trace a bowl to get a nice even shape.
4. Trace the head and body onto a different colored paper and repeat all the same cuts. 
5. Cut out two triangles for the ears and two smaller triangles with a different color and glue them together.
6. Cut a few small triangles out from the top piece of construction paper then glue the two colors together.
7. Glue the ears onto the upper back of the head and then the head onto the body. 
8. Attach the googly eyes and using the pencil or a Sharpie, draw the whiskers and mouth.
9. Write your custom birthday note inside or on the back of the card. 

Cat Puppet

A DIY puppet is one of our favorite preschool cat crafts. It only uses a few materials that you most likely already have around the house, and you can really get creative with this one! 

Materials

• Multi-colored construction paper
• Straw
• Black Sharpie pen

Instructions

1. Cut a circle approximately 4 inches in diameter. Tip: you can trace something round to get a good circle.
2. Cut two triangles for the ears and two smaller triangles with a different colored paper and glue them together.
3. Glue the ears onto the upper back of the head.
4. Using the Sharpie, draw in the eyes, nose, whiskers, and a cute little cat smile.
5. Glue the straw to the back of the head.
